I Can Dream About You

Growing up, I went through different phases of wanting to be like someone else. I idolized comic book artists, musicians, and even fictional characters. It’s normal for kids and even teenagers to go through this phase. However, when grown adults lose sight of who they are and instead focus on becoming someone else, it can have a negative impact on their mental health and well-being.

We live in a society that values external appearances and achievements over internal qualities such as kindness, empathy, and compassion. We are bombarded with images of perfect-looking celebrities, successful entrepreneurs, and idealized religious and historical figures who seem to have it all together. However, the truth is, no one is perfect. Everyone has their own struggles and challenges, even those who seem to have it all.

Comparing ourselves to unrealistic images can lead to feelings of inadequacy, low self-esteem, and even depression. It sets us up for failure and disappointment. Instead of striving for perfection or measuring ourselves against others, we should focus on being ourselves and embracing our unique qualities. We all have strengths and weaknesses, talents and flaws. These are what make us human, and they should be celebrated rather than hidden or compared to others.

It’s important to remember that the images we see in the media are not real. They are carefully crafted and curated by marketing teams, publicists, and even artists who want to present a certain image to the world. They are not representative of the full range of human experience, and they should not be used as a benchmark for our own lives.

So how can we break free from the cycle of comparison? Here are a few tips:

1. Practice self-compassion: Treat yourself with kindness and understanding, just as you would treat a friend who is going through a tough time.

2. Focus on your own journey: Rather than comparing yourself to others, focus on your own goals and aspirations. What do you want to achieve in life? What steps can you take to get there?

3. Embrace your uniqueness: Celebrate your individuality and the things that make you different from others. Whether it’s your sense of humor or your artistic talent, these are the things that make you special.

4. Surround yourself with positive influences: Seek out people who uplift and inspire you, rather than those who bring you down or make you feel inferior.

Remember, you are enough just as you are. Don’t let unrealistic images and comparisons hold you back from living your best life. Embrace your true self and all that makes you unique, and the rest will fall into place.

Being our individual unique selves is what makes us special. Remember, we are all human and imperfect, and that’s what makes us beautiful. Embrace your uniqueness and shine bright.
